The titles of the books in each stack illustrate twelve conversations between the two people, for example:

• Salah al-Din (12th-century Sultan of Egypt who ousted the Crusaders) and Avishai Margalit (Israeli founder of Peace Now)

• Margaret Sanger (Birth control activist and founder of Planned Parenthood) and Bristol Palin (pregnant 17-year old daughter of GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin)
