The Invention of Clouds is based on the book of the same name by Richard Hamblyn, recounting the early 19th century British scientist Luke Howard’s development of the classification of clouds. Through scientific observation, Howard fixed the nomenclature of clouds and developed an identifiable taxonomy. The photographs are from a place looking down; yet the viewer sees them from below in the installation, a slight jarring of perspective. A quote from the book threads its way through space: “Weather writes, erases, rewrites itself upon the sky with the  endless fluidity of language.”
